** SOLD ** Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec Pistol in .45 ACP **Box, Papers and Simple Cleaning Tools**
Description: Presented is a very nice Springfield Armory 1911-A1 Mil-Spec 1911 in .45 ACP caliber. Designed by John Browning, the M1911 is the best-known of his designs to use the short recoil principle in its basic design. The pistol was widely copied, and this operating system rose to become the preeminent type of the 20th century and of nearly all modern centerfire pistols. It is popular with civilian shooters in competitive events such as the International Defensive Pistol Association and International Practical Shooting Confederation. The 1911 pistol has been used by countless military and law enforcement agencies arould the world. The .45 ACP (Automatic Colt Pistol), also known as .45 Auto, .45 Automatic is a rimless straight-walled handgun cartridge designed by John Moses Browning in 1904, for use in his prototype Colt semi-automatic pistol. After successful military trials, it was adopted as the standard chambering for Colt's M1911 pistol. The round was developed due to a lack of stopping power experienced in the Moro Rebellion in places like Sulu. The issued ammunition, .38 Long Colt, had proved inadequate, motivating the search for a better cartridge. This experience and the Thompson–LaGarde Tests of 1904 led the Army and the Cavalry to decide that a minimum of .45 caliber was required in a new handgun cartridge. This particular example is in very nice condition mechanically and physically exhibiting light handling and use marks but nothing serious. This businesslike 1911-A1 has a parkerized finish and is fitted with a cool retro style set of Pachmayr rubber wraparound grips. There's nothing fancy here just an excellent task oriented 1911-A1. Box and simple cleaning tools included. PRICE: $595.00 Plus Shipping We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, a dealer of fine firearms since 1974.
