Description:
This is a very nice, well cared-for, 1979-manufacture Smith & Wesson Model 10-8 Military and Police revolver in .38 Special with a 4" inch heavy barrel.  This Smith has been lightly-used, but remains in perfect mechanical condition and shows only some minor aesthetic finish wear/handling marks. The original finish rates 95%, and is still bright and glossy outside of the small areas of visible, yet minor, handling marks and thinned/worn finish.  These spots are located on the ejector rod itself, a VERY light drag line around the cylinder between the bolt stops, and on both sides of the barrel right near the muzzle.  The grips straps are still in superb shape, as is the front face of the cylinder, and the remaining balance of the revolver.  All of the markings are crisp and clean, and the screw heads are all still intact with un-buggered slots.  The screws appear unturned.  As you can see in the pictures, the original case-colors on the trigger and hammer are in excellent condition, with nice colors showing on both parts with little to no fading at all.  As a Model 10-8, which integrates the first 8 engineering changes, still reatins the pinned barrel, which was not deleted until 1982 when the 3-letter serial prefixes began.  The bore in this Model 10 is minty and in superb condition with no visible wear, pitting, or defects of any kind.  All 6 chambers of the cylinder are equally as free from any damage.   The action on this M&P is absolutely solid and perfectly in-time.  Pay close attention to the picture of the rear of the cylinder and the star that the hand engages to turn it when the action is worked.  You will notice there is zero visible damage or wear to those points.  The "star" still looks perfectly-clean and like-new in every way.  The mechanical condition of this M&P indictes that despite being 45 years old, it has not actually been fired very much by any standard.  The grips on this Smith are factory-original and serial-numbered matching. Both grips have intact medallions and crisp checkering with no oil-soiling or staining.  The biggest deduction from the grips consists of a small chip off of the front left grip panel.  This can be best-seen in pictures # 10 and 11.  
      This Military and Police Model 10-8 would be the PERFECT choice for a super-reliable, easy to operate, easy to fire, and very safe self-defense pistol to keep at home or carry in your vehicle.  Due to the weight and size of the gun, it would be a little heavy and large for concealed carry, but certainly could be used for that with the right holster.  While the size and weight are a negative for concealed carry purposes, these same characteristics are actually a positive for ease of firing and operation.  This is a revolver that a beginner can learn quickly and shoot comfortably while practicing.  Loaded with low recoil, practice rounds, the heavy barrel negates a lot of felt-recoil, and also encourages a steady hold whether using one or both hands to hold it while firing.  The standard factory checkered hardwood-type grips also make it easy to use speed loaders for quick & easy reloads, a lot more so than larger target-style or oversized rubber grips.
