Markings: The right side of the slide is marked with a gold filled IPSC Crest and “10th Anniversary / 1976 – 1986”. The right side of the frame has a small S&W logo. The bottom of the mag-well is marked “T” and “7”. The barrel is marked “45 AUTO” as seen through the ejection port. The left side of the slide is marked “SMITH & WESSON” and has the four line Marcas Registradas address. The left side of the frame is marked “DVC3793 / Model 745”.

Barrel Length: nominal 5”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed serrated ramped blade. The rear sight is a Novak competition square notch that is drift adjustable for windage. This was the first model with the Novak sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut. The grips show no handling marks, with no notable chips, cracks or scratches. The grips rate in about Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue Slide with Satin Finish Stainless Steel Frame

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The blued slide has no handling marks. The grip screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent, virtually unfired condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Two stainless steel magazines with witness holes marked 1 through 8 on both sides and “45 AUTO / S&W” on the floor plate are provided in Fine condition. A blue one piece cardboard box with tuck-in wings is provided with an end label that correctly describes this pistol. The folded cardboard that positions the pistol within the box is provided in Very Good condition. The owner’s manual, two safety brochures, a list of warranty stations, an unfilled registration card, a paper on field stripping, an ammunition warning paper, a loop cleaning rod, wire bore brush, cotton bore mop and a hex wrench are provided in Fine condition.

Our Assessment: We don’t see many single action S&W centerfire semi-autos. This Model 745 was made as a commemorative for the International Practical Shooting Confederation’s 10th Anniversary. Around 5,000 of these were made, so this example should have been made a little bit past the middle of the run. It may be unfired, but we can't verify that. Its two tone appearance is striking, not to mention the engraving on the slide. The serial number is also special; the IPSC motto “Diligentia, Vis, Celeritas “(DVC) is used to start the serial number. If you would like to compete in Single Stack with something a little different, this might be it!

Sourced from the collection of a well known local historian and collector, this weapon has been well maintained and cared for.
