WW2 Australian Lend Lease Smith & Wesson Victory Model Revolver in .38 S&W
* Nice Original Example * SOLD
Description:
This is a nice original example of the Smith & Wesson-made Victory Model revolver provided to the Australian Military during World War 2 as part of America's Lend Lease program. Like the British, the Australian Military found themselves short of arms and ammunition at the outset of World War 2. With industrial production to spare, the United States mades an agreement to supply our allies with arms called the Lend Lease Program. These Lend Lease arms served all over the world with our allies throughout WW2 until the war was won. Since the end of WW2, various Lend Lease guns have trickled back into the States from all over the globe. This particular .38 S&W caliber Victory Model is an import-marked gun that almost certainly was issued and used during WW2 by the Australian Military. While it shows some wear you would expect to see on a combat-used sidearm, it remains in perfect working order. The original dull "military blue" factory finish is still intact and looks great, showing only light finish wear and superficial handling marks with no major damage or dings. All of the factory and U.S. Property markings are still crisp and legible, as-is the Australian Military-applied "D Broad Arrow D" acceptance proof (Australia Department of Defense) stamped on the front right side of the frame. The bore in this revolver is in great shape, showing strong rifling from the forcing cone to the muzzle and with no major defects or pitting. The six chambers of the cylinder are equally as clean and free from damage. The smooth Walnut grips on this Victory Model are free from any cracks, chips, or repairs and show only light wear consistent with the rest of the gun. The action on this S&W is still in perfect time, and functions smoothly in single or double-action operation. This Victory Model still still function just as well today as the day it left the factory and was shipped overseas more than 80 years ago. This Australian Military Victory Model would be a great addition to any WW2 weapons collection, as Australian-marked Victory Models are quite scarce when compared to the British-marked examples.
