Remington Arms Co., Model 95 Type II Over/Under Derringer/Deringer, .41 Rimfire Caliber, 3" barrels, hard rubber grips
Description: SOLD ***SALE PENDING 11/20/2020*** ---PRICE REDUCTION--- From $650.00 to $500.00 We present a beautiful little piece of history here with -- a 41 Rimfire caliber, Remington Arms Co. Over/Under Derringer. This little gem has a nickel finish, 3 inch barrels, hard rubber grips and would look stunning on that poker table back at the saloon. The history of the derringer will always be remembered in the stories of the old west and would be a great addition to any collection. The .41 Short cartridge was created with the intention that it be used in a small, single-shot derringer, which likely is the reason for the very low ballistics (most derringers were and are chambered for cartridges that were not originally intended to be used in such a small weapon). Remington Arms began producing their famous Remington Model 95 over/under double barrel derringer chambered for the .41 Rimfire cartridge in 1866. The derringer was manufactured from 1866 until the end of their production in 1935; the batch marking on this firearm is 588. This gun is in good condition, minor wear for its age, all parts function as expected. Please see photos for further condition (note small chip behind hammer). Feel free to contact us with any questions. Because this cannot be verified as a pre-1899 Antique firearm, it will ship to an active FFL or C&R FFL. Some general history on Deringers: "In 1850 Henry Deringer produced his namesake gun, a big-bore, back-action-lock, single-shot, cap-and-ball pocket pistol. The unique design became so popular in the West that dozens of competitors and outright counterfeiters copied it, often calling their versions “derringers” (with two “r’s”) to avoid a lawsuit. After the Civil War, E. Remington & Sons manufactured a small, two-shot pistol that the company called a “deringer” (with one “r”) in early advertising. But as far as present-day terminology, Flayderman’s Guide to Antique American Firearms notes, “Either spelling is permissible, acceptable and correct.” In a 2008 book called Dr. William H. Elliot’s Remington Double Deringer the four authors explained they used the one “r” spelling to honor Henry Deringer. But no matter how you spell it, this popular double-barreled Remington pistol became the most iconic cartridge derringer of the Old West."
