Pair of Flintlock Turn-Off Pistols by Hadley of London
Description: NSN, .45 Caliber, 2 1/4" cannon-style barrels with good, lightly pitted bores. This is a handsome pair of pistols, made ca. 1760 by Henry Hadley of London. The pistols have box frame actions with scrollwork engraving and the maker’s name on the left sides: "Hadley". The steel has developed an overall mottled gray patina over time, and have some small areas of pinprick pitting on and around the pans. The pistols have bag-shaped walnut grips with extensive decorative silver wire inlays that have tarnished to gray-black in spots. The pistols are housed in a modern-made wooden case with green baize-lined interior, along with spare flints and cast .45 caliber balls. The spanner is no longer present, but the barrels of both pistols can be turned by hand. Also included is a folio of documents from Peter Dale Ltd. in London (who sold the guns in 2000) pertaining to the biographical history of Henry Hadley. Hadley was first recorded as a gunmaker in 1735, and operated at several locations throughout London until his death in 1773. This is a lovely pair of British turn-off pistols, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Hadley Model: Pistols Caliber Info: .45 Gauge Info: .45 |
