Rare WW2 German Last-Ditch "svw 45" Mauser P-38 Pistol in 9mm
** German Gray Phosphate/Blued Barrel ** REDUCED SOLD **
Description: This is a very interesting and rare P-38 pistol made by Mauser just prior to Nazi Germany being defeated in World War 2, between January and April of 1945. It is a "svw 45" code P-38 made by the famous Mauser Oberndorf firm in 1945. This variation is called by collectors today the "German Issue SVW-code Second Type". At this point Mauser was using a "German Gray" phosphate finish on everything except for the barrel, which was blued, and either glossy black plastic or all-metal grips. This gun is all-original finish with original grips but is serial number mis-matched between the top half and lower half. We have no doubt that this gun was captured and brought to the States this way as both the lower and upper half are both last-ditch phosphate finish and they are in the same letter block "e", about 1000 numbers apart. The barrel, locking block, and slide are matching to each other, serial number 3517e, and the frame is serial number 4676e. This pistol shows some wear and tear from being in combat. There appears to be a bullet or shrapnel hit on the right side of the slide at the top of the serrations, and there is a good deal of finish loss on the leading edge of the frame and the front grip strap. The dull "military blue" factory finish on the barrel assembly is in good shape, showing only light wear in a few spots. As you can see from the pictures, this P-38 really has a neat look to it, and the German Gray phosphate finish is really quite good on the slide and top portion of the frame. The bore in this svw 45 P-38 is excellent, bright and clean with nice strong rifling throughout the barrel. There is no visible pitting or imperfections in the bore. The original gloss black plastic grips on this gun are in great shape as well, free from any cracks, major damage, or repairs. Both grip panels show some minor handling marks and dings but still look very nice, and both sides are tight to the gun with no slop in them. All of the controls on this pistol are in perfect working order, and the action is slick and locks up precisely. We have no doubt that it would fire just as reliably and accurately as the day it was new. It comes complete with one original 8-round magazine with the proper "Eagle 135" Waffenamt for the Mauser firm on the spine, and stamped "P.38v" on the left side. This unique and rare P-38 "Last-Ditch" variation would be an excellent addition to any WW2 weapons collection.
