FRENCH M.A.B. Model “D” 7.65mm SEMI-AUTOMATIC Hammerless POCKET Pistol C&R
.32 ACP Caliber Based on the Model 1910 FN BROWNING
Description: FRENCH M.A.B. Model “D” 7.65mm SEMI-AUTOMATIC Hammerless POCKET Pistol C&R .32 ACP Caliber Based on the Model 1910 FN BROWNING Here we present a C&R French M.A.B. Model “D” Semi-Automatic Hammerless Pistol made by Manufacture d’Armes de Bayonne (M.A.B.) in Bayonne, France circa 1933 to 1963. Serial number dating on these pistols makes it hard to nail down a specific date of manufacture. The M.A.B Model C is very clearly based on the Model 1910 FN Browning, and the M.A.B. Model D is simply a larger version of the Model C, which corresponds more or less to the Model 1922 FN Browning. The M.A.B. Models C and D both went into production in September of 1933. Production of the .380 version of the Model C ended in November of 1963, while the .32 caliber (7.65mm) was produced until November of 1967. It was developed with the smaller M.A.B. “C", also made in .32 and .380 ACP, and with which it has many parts in common. The M.A.B. “C” was primarily a civilian "pocket pistol", while the larger M.A.B. “D” was intended for police and military use. The M.A.B. “D” was used by the French Army and military police before and after World War II. After German forces occupied France, the M.A.B. “D” was adopted for use by the Wehrmacht (German army) during World War II. These pistols typically have German acceptance marks stamped into the metal. Following World War II, the M.A.B. “D” was used by the French military in Indochina. In France, it was used by various French governmental agencies, including the French local police, the Gendarmerie (military police and also civilian countryside police), the customs department, the National Forests Office, and the Banque de France. As with other French firearms, M.A.B. “D”s were also used by the military and police of the Kingdom of Morocco, a French protectorate. In the years after World War II, German police forces also used the M.A.B. “D”. There were two M.A.B. “D” versions, usually called the Type I and Type II. The Type I M.A.B. “D” was made 1933–1945 and used an external muzzle bushing release latch in front of the trigger guard. The Type II used an internal "bayonet" type release requiring pushing in and turning the muzzle bushing. The M.A.B. factory changed from the Type I to Type II production in June 1945.
