WW2 Nazi Pistole 640(b) FN Browning Hi Power 9mm Pistol
** All-Original War Trophy **
Description: This is a nice all-original FN Browning Hi Power built under Nazi Germany occupation during World War 2. When Germany invaded Belgium in 1940 it also took over arms production in the FN factory. Under the occupation and supervision of German military authorities the FN plant began making the Browning Hi Power pistol for the German Wehrmacht and Luftwaffe, with some ending up with the SS as well. The German's re-named this pistol in their military naming system the Pistole 640(b). There were 3 variations of this pistol manufactured during WW2 and recognized by collector's today. This particular example is the 3rd and final variation which consisted of a "military blue" finish, fixed sights, and no provision for a shoulder stock. There were approximately 228,000 of these Hi Powers made in this variation. This FN Hi Power was brought to the States as a war trophy by an American G.I. who served in the European Theater where it has remained in the family until now, never offered for sale previously. All of the serial numbered parts match in their original factory finish, and the original factory magazine is still with the gun. This pistol shows some finish wear from holster carry and from being actually used in combat, along with what appears to be some bullet/shrapnel/battle damage on the underside of the slide and frame towards the muzzle. This pistol took a violent and hard hit that started at the rounded front edge of the frame on the left side and traveled towards the muzzle denting the spring housing on the bottom of the slide. The dent on the spring housing was not too deep, but enough to slightly bind the recoil spring, so we took the dent out once we acquired the pistol. As you can see in the pictures provided, the dent/flat spot at the edge of the frame was left alone as it does not impede or hurt the functionality of the pistol. We have no doubt that this pistol took this damage in battle after examining it. It certainly wasn't from something mundane like dropping it, and if this pistol was holstered on a German soldier's hip when this occurred it could not have been good for the soldier's health. The remainder of the military blue finish on this Hi Power shows a uniform patina and degree of wear. The original checkered Walnut factory grips are in excellent condition overall. They are free from any cracks, chips, gouges, or repairs. The checkering is still pretty crisp and clean, and the screws holding the grips on are the factory originals. The bore in this Pistole 640(b) is bright and in very good shape overall. The rifling still looks nice and prominent with sharp lands and grooves, but there is some very light frosting scattered throughout. This pistol comes with an original 13-rd magazine in very good to excellent condition. The follower still has lots of spring pressure, and the body has perfect feed lips and 96 to 97% of the original blue finish intact. All of the controls and action on this Hi Power functions 100% like it did when it left the factory. The slide goes into battery perfectly, and the trigger is quite good for a wartime production gun. If you have been looking for a nice original and battle-used WW2 Nazi Hi Power that you could enjoy both at the range and on display in your collection, this pistol would be a perfect choice!
