FRENCH MAS/Mle
1892 St. Etienne
Description: This is a nice example of a classic 131-year-old French military revolver. It is mechanically excellent, with a clean, sharp bore and sharp markings, but has some minor pitting, as shown in the photos. Barrel is dated 1893, which is the first year it was fielded. The Modele 1892 was issued to commissioned officers and was widely used in WWI and by the French police until the 1960s. It is a solid frame, six-shot swing cylinder DA revolver. It has a unique feature of swinging open the left side plate for cleaning and lubrication. 8mm Lebel ammo is available online. I obtained this gun in a trade several years ago, so I do not know its history. I did receive six cartridges in the trade and shot it. It worked perfectly and was surprisingly accurate, with little recoil like shooting a SW .32 long. FUN FACT Kirk Douglas wielded a Modele 1892 in the movie Paths of Glory.
