Very Fine British Royal Navy Sea Service Pistol by Tower
Description: NSN, .56 caliber, 6" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This handsome pistol has an 1855 dated, "TOWER" lock and extensive military proofs at the barrel breech. The metal has an overall bright gray patina, while the lockplate retains about 80-85% of the original color case-hardening that has begun to fade along the edges. The barrel also exhibits some very fine freckling around the edges of the bolster. The stock has an added varnish over minor handling marks and blemishes throughout. The issue stamps are still clear with large "B^O" Board of Ordnance stamp on the right side of the grip, and two large contractor stamps on the left: "TIPPING & LAWDEN", and "J&S POUNTNEY". The brass furniture has developed a dull yellow-ochre tarnish, and the action is tight and functions flawlessly. This is a great looking British naval pistol and would make a nice addition to a collection.
