Swiss Model 1842 Percussion Pistol (Canton Fribourg)
Description: Serial #480, .69 Caliber, 8 1/4" barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a Liege-made pistol by Beuret Freres, and is so marked on the blunt-faced lockplate. The metal has an overall plum-brown patina with some gray fading along a few of the high and exposed edges. There is mild surface freckling throughout, as well as some trace pitting on the large percussion bolster. All markings and proofs are still crisp and clear, including the small Fribourg shield on the top of the barrel breech. The brass barrel band/sideplate, trigger guard, and domed butt have developed a mellowed yellow-ochre patina with dark brown mottling throughout. The walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes, as well as a stable crack at the tail-end of the lockplate. All of the inspector proofs are still crisp and clear. This is a hefty and well-made pistol, not often seen in the US, and is in very good-fine condition overall.
