1924-25 Vintage Mauser Model 1914 .32 ACP Pocket Pistol
* 4th Model & Spectacular ORIGINAL!!! *
Description: This is a really spectacular all-original and matching Mauser Model 1914 "Pocket Pistol" in .32 ACP / 7.65mm. This "pocket pistol" was made sometime between 1924 and 1925, and is just beautiful d exceptionally clean and pristine-looking. The Mauser Model 1914 was sent for patent approval in 1912, but it was not approved and granted until 1914. Introduced as an up-scaled Model 1910, it was originally intended to be issued before the 1910, and chambered in .32 ACP. After starting work on it in 1908, and then building some test pieces called the Model 1909, Mauser found that the .32 ACP cartridge was too powerful for their unlocked-breech and recoil buffer spring operated design, so they took that Model 1909, and scaled it down to fire the much less powerful .25 ACP cartridge. Now aware that he needed a different action design, Mauser went to the time-tested and simple, yet reliable, straight blow-back style action. This action was powered by a strong recoil spring to keep it cycling properly, while not being too heavy or stiff thus making it hard to rack the slide and manipulate. It was an important yet delicate balance because if the spring was too soft or weak, the pistol would begin tearing itself apart from violent impacts between the slide and frame when fired, as well as cause excessive wear to the internal parts. Ultimately the design was tested and modified until it functioned reliably in all kinds of conditions, and with many types of ammunition. Only when the German engineers were satisfied that the pistol met their very exacting standards was the pistol put into production. Mauser found that like virtually every other firearm they designed and/or built, it was far from done until every aspect of the pistol was as good as it could possibly be within the confines of the overall design. The Mauser Model 1914 was continually-refined over the years leading into WW2, with 6 distinct model variations produced of this little attractive Mauser pocket pistol. This particular example is a commercial-production pistol, which can be determined by the commerical proofs applied to it, with no military inspector acceptance proofs. While there are no exact records to determine when it was made exactly, there is a narrow window for it's year of production from serial number ranges that put it being made in 1924 or 1925. As you can see from the pictures, it has been fired VERY VERY little, and it was most likely decades ago when that happened. It has been very well cared-for, and it does not show any evidence of having been carried for self protection in a pocket or holster. the beautiful gloss blue finish on the pistol rates 97 to 98%, with the only deductions coming from a slightly-buggered grip screw on the left side, and some very-minor and very tiny little spots of wear or thinning on a few spots the high edges and where normal metal-to-metal contact occurs. The fire blued small parts are still in excellent condition, bright and clean with a glossy-bright appearance. The bore in this Mauser is mirror-bright and like new. The rifling is sharp and clean, there are no visible imperfections, erosion, or damage of any kind from the chamber to the muzzle. The action on this Mauser is in perfect working order, and the controls are all crisp, tight, and feel like new, The barrel-to-slide lock-up is tight and free from any slop, the unique left-side grip-mounted safety design works perfectly, and the heel-located magazine release works perfectly. The original factory magazine in this Model 1914 is just as clean and like-new as the rest of the pistol, with a strong spring, a clean follower, and perfect feed-lips. The magazine's body is straight and free from dents, bulges, or damage of any kind, and the removable floorplate is nice and tight as it was designed to be. We have no doubt that ths handsome and classy looking little Mauser Model 1914 will function just as well today as it did when it left the factory the first time 100 =/- years ago! Looking at the market over the years, these will never be cheaper than they are now, and it would be near impossible to upgrade from this example in any respect.
