After World War One, many ex-military Lugers, both military contract and purchases by individual officers came into DWMs possession. Many of these pistols were rebuilt and sold commercially as the Model 1920. Thusly, the 1920 can be found in both 7.65mm and 9mm caliber, and in a variety of configurations, including some with the grip safety of the 1900-1906 models. The pistol shown is just such a pistol. It features the early grip safety which has become a relatively rare feature over time. It also features a 4-inch “pencil” barrel as opposed to the shorter, fatter 3-7/8” barrel. The pistol itself is in fair condition. The bore is in good condition with some minor wear but strong rifling. The exterior of the pistol features pitting in different locations, though not critically. The most notable pitting is under the grips which I have shown in the pictures. Like most Lugers, the magazine does not match the pistol. I personally own a Model 1920 Commercial in 7.65 Luger/.30 Luger; however, it has no grip safety and has the thick 3-7/8” barrel. With some experience, I can say that the 1920 is fun to own and shoot. I recommend Fiocchi 7.65 soft-point ammunition for shooting. Lugers are pleasant to shoot and have very nice triggers.
