1954-57 Vintage High Standard 101 Olympic .22 Short Pistol w/ Custom Grips & 2 Barrel Weights
** Excellent Shooter **
Description: This is a very nice vintage High Standard Model 101 Olympic pistol in .22 Short caliber with a beautiful set of hand carved/checkered custom Walnut target grips and a 6.75" inch bull barrel with an integral muzzle break and two factory barrel weights. The underside of the barrel is factory dovetailed along the entire length for placement of the weights. The 101 Series High Standard Olympic was produced for only a few years between 1954 and 1957. It was High Standard's top-of-the-line regular-production .22 Short semi-automatic pistol designed to compete at the highest levels of rimfire target shooting. These pistols quickly earned a reputation for being very well, made, reliable, and extremely accurate. This particular example is serial number 712280 and it remains in very good condition overall. While this High Standard Olympic has been carried and used, it has been very well-cared for and has perfect mechanics. The factory gloss blue finish on the barrel and weights of this pistol rate 95% plus, with only some minor handling marks and some high-edge wear. The matte blue factory finish on the frame rates 85 to 90%, with deductions for some minor handling/storage marks and some fading and wear in places. The lightweight alloy slide retains only 30 to 40% of the original factory anodized finish, quite common for these Olympics as the finish was not durable by any means and very susceptible to wear with minimal use. The bore in this Olympic however is minty and mirror-bright. It is free from any pitting, erosion, or imperfections of any kind. The rifling is still crisp and sharp, and the chamber area is spotless. The custom grips on this High Standard were top-of-the-line when they were new, and remain as good as it gets even by today's standards. These 2-piece hand checkered and carved American Walnut Target grips were most likely made by Herrett and feature a right-handed thumb shelf, an open area just below the triggerguard where your finger contacts the pistol's frontstrap, and a wide flared base for a solid grip or resting point for shooting off of bags. The base is relieved for accessing the magazine with a widened access point at the front toe of the magazine for extraction. The hand-cut checkered panel wraps from the thumb shelf all the way around the front of the grips to just shy of the base of the thumb shelf. The checkering is still crisp and clean. These custom grips fit this pistol perfectly and are nice and tight to the frame with no wiggle or play in them. As mentioned before, this High Standard is mechanically perfect and should function 100% like the day it left the factory. The slide-to-frame fitment is excellent and the action is both smooth and precise. The quick-release barrel mechanism works perfectly and both the thumb safety and slide stop are in perfect working order. The trigger on this .22 Short pistol is superb; after taking up a tiny bit of slack the trigger hits a wall where it will break like a glass rod with a very light pull. There is no grit, slop, or excessive travel. This Olympic comes with one factory single-stack steel 10rd magazine in perfect working order. If you have been looking for a super-accurate .22 Short target pistol for your collection that you can enjoy at the range or in the field, this late 1950's vintage High Standard 101 Olympic would be an excellent choice.
