1946 Mfg. High Standard HD Military .22 LR Semi Auto Pistol, W/Box

Description:
1946 High Standard HD Military .22 LR Pistol wearing a 4.5 inch Bull target barrel and exposed single action hammer in original numbered to the gun box. In 1942 the U.S. War department ordered 34,000 of this model for basic pistol training for new troops. The large frame HD had much the same feel, operation and sights of the Colt 1911 and was thought these simple pistols would make great trainers to introduce pistol marksmanship before moving up to the .45 cal Colt 1911. The 22 cal ammunition was also far cheaper and allowed valuable war ammunition to be sent to the front rather than being stockpiled at training depots.
This pistol remains in excellent overall condition with a few scuffs on muzzel and grip bottom. Deep blued finish remains at 97% or better. The original numbered to the gun factory box has seen better days but is still protecting this pistol for the last 78 years! One ten round magazine with gun. An interesting pistol to shoot and collect.
