WW2 1944-Production FEG Femaru Model 37M Semi-Auto Pistol in .380 ACP Caliber
**Hungarian Army Acceptance Marked**
Description: This is a very nice, and exceptionally-clean WW2-production Hungarian Army FEG Femaru 37M semi-auto pistol in .380 ACP. This very handsome Model 37M was built in 1944 and is 100% original and correct, it has not been altered or improved in any way. The 37M was designed by Rudolf Frommer, and was essentially an improved version of his earlier model called the 29M. Accepted as a standard issue pistol for the Hungarian Army in 1937, somewhere near 250,000 were made in total. The pistol was built in 2 chamberings of .380 ACP and .32 ACP. The .380 ACP (9x17mmSR) version like this one was used by the Hungarian Army, while the .32 ACP (7.65x17mmSR) version was manufactured for German Military service and was called the Pistole 37(u) or P37 by the German Military during World War II. The FEMARU Model 1937 / Frommer 37M is a simple but well-made blowback-operated weapon. The return spring is located below the barrel and uses a guide rod, and the barrel is located in-place to the frame with four lugs machined as part of the barrel that protrude downward below the chamber area. These four squared ridges or lugs match up to 4 identically-sized slots machined into the frame of the pistol and keep the barrel stationary when fired/cycled, but allow for the barrel to be removed easily when field stripped by rotating the barrel by hand with the slide locked into the take-down postition. This semi-auto pistol is a single-action design in that the exposed hammer has to be cocked manually for the first shot and then is subsequently re-cocked when the gun fires and the action cycles. There is no manual thumb safety on the 37M, but the pistol is fitted with automatic grip safety at the rear of the grip which pops out when the hammer is cocked and has to be depressed to fire. This pistol proved to be a very good service pistol despite the underpowered (by today's military standards) .380 ACP chambering. It handled rough conditions and extreme weather well, retaining it's excellent reliability with minimal care and cleaning. The high-quality steel it was built out of, the excellent fit and finish of the parts, and the overall simple yet strong design made it a very durable sidearm. The Germans also thought highly of the pistol, so much so that the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) ordered 110,000 of them in .32 ACP during the war which ended up being split to both the German Luftwaffe and Heer (German Army). This particular pistol is in superb mechanical condition and is in excellent condition overall. There is some minor high-edge and muzzle wear to the finish but the factory gloss blue finish is still in excellent condition overall, both very clean and bright. There is also a very small "M" or "W" lightly scratched-in on the bottom edge of the right side of the slide (see photo 9) and and again scratched equally as small and light on the backside of the finger extension on the magazine (See picture 16 and use zoom-in function) The photographic lighting really accentuates these marks WAY beyond what is seen with the naked eye and neither are noticeable in normal light unless you look very carefully and know they are there. Several of us looked at this pistol multiple times before anyone even noticed the one on the bottom edge of the slide, and it was looked at several times more before the one on the back of the finger extension of the magazine was seen. Given how small and light these marks are, they do not detract any appreciable amount from the clean and handsome overall look of this pistol. The slide-to-frame fitment is excellent on this Femaru, and the action is both very slick and smooth when worked. All of the controls on this pistol are in like-new, perfect working order. You will notice that there are two slide-stop notches cut into the slide's bottom left edge. The most forward notch is for the slide-stop to lock into manually when the pistol is empty and the slide is pulled back to the most rearward position of travel, or for when the slide locks back automatically after the last round in the magazine is fired. The rearward notch is for positioning the slide for disassembly or field-stripping the pistol. The bore in the 3.94" inch (100mm) factory barrel, which was left in-the-white by the factory, is mirror-bright and pristine with no pitting or visible imperfections of any kind. The rifling still looks like-new with sharp lands and grooves from the chamber to the crown of the muzzle. All of the factory markings and inspection proofs are still deep with sharp edges and 100% visible. The factory original grips are also in excellent condition. Both the left and right grips are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/wear. The left and right grip panels match each other perfectly in every way, and both grips are tight to the gun with no wiggle. The original factory-cut vertical grooves in both grips are all still crisp and clean with no visible damage or wear to them, and the grip screw and escutcheons are in very good to excellent condition with only the slightest tiny bit of marring to the slot in the screw head. The factory lanyard loop at the rear bottom of the grip frame swings forward and backward as it was designed to, and is still in perfect shape. The internals of this 37M are in like-new condition and are as clean as you will ever see. There is no visible mechanical wear to any of the small parts, only some very minor superficial wear. This pistol was obviously fired very, very little, as it appears to still have 95% or more of it's service life still remaining. The factory original magazine in this Model 37M has the correct "37M" on the bottom of the non-removable baseplate of the magazine, and the finger extension is intact and in good shape other than the "M" scratched on the backside of the finger extension that was described earlier. The magazine still has the original blue finish intact which shows some wear and thinning due to the metal-to-metal contact that occurs when it is inserted or removed from the pistol. The body of the magazine is free from any dents or structural damage, and the follower, follower spring, and feed lips are in excellent fully-functional condition. The follower spring is still stout and strong with lots of pressure to feed the cartridges into battery properly and reliably. This beautiful Hungarian Military Femaru Model 37M should still function just as reliably and accurately today as it did the day it left the factory in Budapest more than 79 years ago in 1944! This finely-made and high-condition Hungarian Femaru 37M pistol would make a great addition to any WW2 or military weapons collection. NOTE- We also have the correct and all-original Hungarian Army holster for this pistol at an additional cost of $250. It is all-original, correct for this model, and in very good to excellent condition! Pictures of the holster can be sent to any prospective buyer or interested party. It is one of the earlier Hungarian Military designs from the late 1930's with a full top-flap that covers the entire holster as well as the two extra mag pouches on the front side of it. The mag pouches also have their own small top flap that protect the magazines. The original ink stamps and markings from the Hungarian Military are still intact and fully visible on the back/inside face of the top flap along with several hand written markings that are not entirely legible. It almost certainly a U.S.G. I. bring-back from WW2 as it has the name "Thacker" and a social or military ID number written in ink on one of the extra mag pouches. We would add this holster and pictures here in this listing but many people would assume it comes with the gun, which is not correct. This is a pretty scarce holster and would be a very cool addition to the pistol we are selling. PRICE: $695.00 We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, a dealer of fine firearms since 1974.
