FABRIQUE NATIONALE Model 1906 Semi-Auto .25 ACP Cal. C&R VEST POCKET Pistol
Description: FABRIQUE NATIONALE Model 1906 Semi-Auto .25 ACP Cal. C&R VEST POCKET Pistol ROARING TWENTIES Era Made by FN in Herstal, Belgium Here we present a C&R Fabrique Nationale Model 1906 Vest Pocket Pistol, made circa 1921 in Herstal, Belgium. This little pistol is a blowback-operated, semi-automatic pistol designed by John Browning and manufactured by Fabrique National of Belgium. The FN Model 1905 (from its patent date) or FN Model 1906 (in European countries due to its date of manufacture) was a pistol manufactured by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal from 1906 to 1959. The Model 1906 was originally referred to by FN as “Pistolet Browning 6.35mm,” and sometimes as the “Modèle de Poche,” or pocket model. The gun was often popularly referred to as the “Baby Browning,” and when FN later created a new version they officially named it the “Baby Browning” and even put the word “Baby” on some of the early grips. Though it is often referred to as the “Model 1905,” after its patent date, “Model 1906” is the preferred designation for the older gun to distinguish it from the later official “Baby” model. It is virtually identical to the Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket, which was based on the same John Browning prototype, and was the inspiration for FN's later Baby Browning design. Although Browning's handgun patents were sold to both FN and Colt, this was the only case in which both companies put the same design into production without any significant modification. The Model 1906 was used by the Belgian Resistance in 1943 in the Attack on the Twentieth Convoy. On 19 April 1943, members of the Belgian Resistance stopped a Holocaust train and freed a number of Jews who were being transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp from Mechelen transit camp in Belgium, on the twentieth convoy from the camp. In the aftermath of the attack, a number of others were able to jump from the train too. In all, 233 people managed to escape, of whom 118 ultimately survived. The remainder were either killed during the escape or were recaptured soon afterwards. The attack was unusual as an attempt by the resistance to free Jewish deportees and marks the only mass breakout by deportees on a Holocaust train. The gun is now on display in the Kazerne Dossin Museum in Mechelen. The over condition is fine. Original blue finish. The action is excellent. The bore is in great shape: reflective with nice rifling. The grips are solid. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 2 inches. Caliber: .25 ACP (6.35mm) Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING. Will need to be sent to your local FFL or C&R licensee.
