German Occupation W.W. II
Belgian FN Browning Patent High Power 9mm Pistol Matching SN’s
Description: W.W. II German occupation Belgian Fabrique Nationale Browning patent High Power 9mm pistol. After the occupation of Belgium the German military establishment took over the FN plant at Herstal and produced three series of FN Browing patent pistols designated the Pistole 640(b). This example is from 1941-May 1942, the middle series, and is stamped WaA103…the arms inspector mark of “Tennert”. This example is fitted with a tangent rear sight. The serial number 75283 is matching on barrel, slide and frame. The “Eagle” and WaA103 proof marks are found on the frame and slide; “Eagle” is stamped on the barrel above the serial number; ‘MR” is stamped on the left front trigger bow. The magazine is of the split base type…correct for this pistol…however I could not find an ordinance mark. Concidentially, the left grip panel has the initials “W.T.T.” carved on the backside. According to Peterson’s Military Firearms book on 50,000 of the tangent sight models were produced. The blue finish has turned to an even brownish gray patina with some freckling and wear on high/sharp edges. The checkered walnut grips show even wear and signs of use. Locks up tight and functions as it should. Bore is shiny with some lite pitting and strong rifling. I can only speculate the patina of the metal, the even wear on the grips and very good mechanical condition (an indication of regular maintenance) could only come from constant/daily/continuous use over a sustained period of time leading to the possibility this pistol was well used throughout the war….of course no one will never know! This pistol does; however; have a lot of character. Buyer pays actual overnight shipping.
