British WWI Cogswell & Harrison Ltd. Mark III Signal Flare Pistol
Description: Serial #71144, 25mm, 4 1/8" barrel with an excellent bore that shows powder staining near muzzle. This is the WWI, Mark III flare pistol manufactured by Cogswell & Harrison Limited in London with a 1916 acceptance date. These were the shorter forerunner to the No. 1 Mark III flare pistol that had a longer flared barrel, a wartime modification to prevent hands from burning injury. With an overall length of 8" the gun is well marked with British broad arrow, Crown/GR/R and Crown/T9/E along with the maker “Cosgwell & Harrison Ltd London". The top of the barrel and gripstrap have the approved sale mark for deaccession from the British military. The pistol is in excellent used condition with some light use marks and stains on the brass frame and barrel. The iron “stirrup" style catch, trigger and lanyard loop show light pitting and surface oxidation. The hardwood stocks are excellent, solid and free of cracks with light use marks. An excellent, early WWI flare pistol by a great English company. Antique SOLD Manufacturer: British Model: Flare Gun Caliber Info: 25mm Gauge Info: 25mm |
