HJS Arms, Model A01, Frontier Four Derringer, Stainless Steel, Single-Action, Four-Shot, .22 LR Derringer
Description: LIKE NEW This HJS Arms, Model A01, Frontier Four Derringer, stainless steel, single-action, four-shot, .22 LR caliber derringer has four stationary 2-inch barrels drilled into a single piece of steel, a rotating firing pin, and black plastic grip panels. According to an internet article by Ed Buffaloe, the years of production for the Model A01, Frontier Four Derringer was 1991 to 1993. Buffaloe states that less than 3,000 may have been manufactured. The serial number of this gun is 1284, making it a true collectable. The gun is stamped on the left side with “.22 Cal” and “HJS ARMS INC.” (first line), “BROWNSVILLE”, (second line), “TEXAS, U.S.A.” (third line). The serial number stamped on the butt is 1284 mark. Accessories include the original HJS Arms Frontier Four Derringer box, the original “Limited Warranty” certificate, the original “Instructions and Parts List”, and a wood dowel for removing spent casings. The overall condition of this gun is 100 percent. I seldom rate a firearm as 100 percent unless it new-in-the-box. I have made an exception for this gun, as it is in like-new condition. The owner said he does not think he ever fired the gun. If he has, I doubt very much. I mean, who goes target practicing with a derringer? The finishes on the metal (including the muzzles) and grip panels show no wear or other blemishes. The original box shows almost no handling wear. The original papers have been folded for years, but show only the folding marks. NOTE: There is a situation I want potential buyers to beware of. The following information was derived from an article entitled “The HJS Frontier Four Derriger”, by Ed Buffaloe, as follows: The Frontier Four Derringer was first produced by H.J.S Industries during 1983 to 1985 when the company ceased operations due to financial issues. In 1991, the owners decided to try the business again and formed a new company called HJS Arms Incorporated and again manufactured the Frontier Four Derringer until 1993. Later, the Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners (AFTE) Journal, January 1996; Volume 28, Number 1:55-56 issued this warning: “H.J.S. Industries Inc. produces a reproduction of the Sharps four barrel 22 caliber derringer named the “Frontier Four Derringer” which may UNINTENTIONAL DISCHARGE. The fixed rectangular firing pin projects from a circular hammer which rotates 1/4 turn each time the firearm is cocked for single action firing. When the chamber under the firing pin nose is empty, a live cartridge, NOT under the firing pin nose, may discharge because it is struck by the circular edge of the hammer.” A couple points must be noted here. 1) This warning indicates that “UNINTENTIONAL DISCHARGE” may occur if the gun is dry fired – “When the chamber under the firing pin nose is empty….” 2) As with almost all .22 caliber rimfire firearms, the instructions that came with this gun state, “DO NOT DRY FIRE – Damage to Internal Parts will occur.” The damage referred to here would be from the steel firing pin striking the lip of the steel chamber. Thus the above situation should never occur. As far as we know, H.J.S Industries did not recall any guns due to AFTE’s safety concern. Also, HJS Arms Inc. was not named in the AFTE warning. Also, we do not know if HJS Arms Inc. made any designed modifications to address the safety issue prior to production in 1991 – 1993. Anyone wishing to buy this gun must acknowledge this warning and purchase at his/her own risk. The photos are high resolution, so zoom to see details. Contact me for additional photos of any areas you would like to see or see better. The buyer pays $20 for USPS Priority Mail and $6.80 for insurance. Virginia buyers must pay 5.3% sales tax. The fastest way to get this gun is to pay with USPS (U.S. Postal Service) money order, as they are like cash. I will ship the pistol immediately upon receipt of a USPS money order and an FFL. I will also accept a personal check and other types of money orders, as well as bank checks and cashier's checks, but I will hold the gun until it clears my bank; this includes bank checks and cashier’s checks. I do not accept credit cards, debit cards, or PayPal. Check or money order must be made out to Jerry Pownall (NOT Barboursville Arms). If you wish to contact me, please "Email Seller". I will answer your questions, explain the purchase / transfer process, and provide my mailing address. I am available any time, except Friday evenings and Saturdays. I will return emails Saturday evening. SOLD |
