Savage 1907 Trials Pistol .45 ACP
Description: Savage Model 1907 Trials pistol serial number 166 of the original 288 produced. The 1907 trials were insigated by the request of Bridadier General Crozier as the shortcomings of the 1894 Colt .38 revolvers were discovered during the Philippine insurrection. The pistols were issued issued to the 3rd , 6th and 11th Cavalry for test and evaluation. Post testing the pistols were returned to Savage, refinished and sold commercially to Tryon in Philadelphia. Slide retains the full 2 line Savage markings, 1st pattern frame without the safe & fire markings. Case colored trigger. Original magazine without serial number. Mixed numbers internally, Slide 8, hammer assembly 201, grips 73 & 78 Bbl, unmarked slide stop #73. sight bar 166. Mixed numbers are common as these were factory refinished and no attention was paid to numbers as all parts were interchangeable. Condition, Extremely fine with excellent bright bore and retaining over 95% Savage applied finish. Very fine checkered walnut grips with small crack on interior of right panel. Action operates properly.
