RARE NEW IN BOX Colt 1848 3rd Model Cochise Commemorative Dragoon Revolver 1 of 50 Limited Edition - Colt Black Powder Signature Series
THIS GUN COMES WITH GOLD PLATED TRIGGER GUARD AND CYLINDER AND SOME INLAYS. THE BARREL IS 7 1/2' LONG. THE GRIPS ARE BISON HORN AND ARE INGRAVED. "1 of 50" MARKED IN GOLD. THE GUN STILL HAS THE WAX ON THE GRIPS. THIS PISTOL HAS NEVER BEEN FIRED, AND HAS THE ORIGINAL PAPER WORK.THIS IS NEW IN BOX (including the outer white box which is not in great condition). I purchased this pistol new back around 1997 and displayed it in my safe, I have never fired or even turned the cylinder. This is a fantastic looking pistol. The only blemish that I can find is that there is a small chip in the lower corner of the right bison bone grip panel. I tried to capture this in one of the up-close photos.
I have seen a few of these sell online over the years, but they have all stated that there were 500 of those manufactured. This one is different than those in that it has "1 of 50" marked in gold on the left side of the frame. The others that I have seen did not have this marking.

This is a 3rd Generation “Signature Series” Model 1848 Dragoon, 3rd Model revolver made in 1997, also referred to as the “C”-series. This however is an extra notch of special being designated as a Cochise Commemorative Dragoon. While some forgings or small parts were supplied by subcontractors, all of the completed pistols were produced to Colt’s strict specifications and quality control with final inspection performed by Colt, with the result that despite some work being performed outside the Colt factory, collectors tend to regard these revolvers as original Colts rather than reproductions. The Colt 1848 Dragoon was designed as an improved version of the 1847 Walker with a shortened cylinder, barrel, loading lever lock and various other improvements with each subsequent model. The Dragoon model was originally phased out of production and military use for the 1860 Army. It has a six-shot cylinder and a 7.5-inch round barrel.
