The left side of the frame between the slide and barrel is marked “THE WOODSMAN”. The left of the slide is marked “COLT”, “AUTOMATIC / CAL .22 LONG RIFLE” and with a rampant colt. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / PAT’D. DEC.22.1903. AUG.27.1918. SEPT.3.1918. The magazine’s floorplate is marked “COLT WOODSMAN / CAL. 22 L.R.”.
The slightly tapered barrel is 6 5/8” sight is a Patridge-style pinned into a slotted base on the barrel and adjustable for elevation. The rear sight is a flat-topped square notch dovetailed into the slide that is adjustable for windage.
The grips are two-piece full-checkered walnut panels. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.
The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
This pistol retains about 96% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There are a few scattered light marks with a spot of light wear on the right of the barrel at the front, a spot of light freckling on the top of the slide just above the right flat, a couple more on the front of the frame above the trigger guard, a spot of light wear on the left of the frame at the front edge of the grip panel behind the trigger and light handling wear in the grip straps. The slide serrations, trigger serrations, grip safety serrations, safety knurling, and magazine release serrations are sharp. The screw head is sharp and the markings are clear. The action functions correctly. This pistol does not have a slide that locks back on an empty magazine, but the safety can be used to lock the slide back manually.
