COLT 1860 ARMY REVOLVER MADE 1863 ALL MATCHING
Description: This 1860 Colt is in Antique Fine condition and an outstanding example of a Civil War revolver. It was manufactured in 1863. The serial number is 135,304, and all parts have matching numbers, including the wedge. All stampings are clear. It is from my personal collection and remains in its ‘as found’ condition. There are no issues mechanically. It retains its original finish throughout, with some faint bluing remaining on the loading rod and underside of the barrel, but the majority of the finish has turned a uniform brown. The grips are beautiful, worn smooth yet tight and sound. The Government inspector stamp (John Taylor) on the left the grip is plain. The right stamp is too indistinct to determine which inspector. The right grip is chipped but nicely worn, showing that the damage happened during the revolver’s useful life. Of note, the left side of the frame near the trigger shows evidence of oxidization and light corrosion, perhaps an indication of a left-handed shooter. The naval scene on the cylinder is clear, the safety pins are worn away, and the cone of one of the original nipples is cracked. The cylinder and barrel are stamped ‘D’ and the frame ‘H’, proofing and acceptance marks. The bore is good and has some shine, and the rifling is strong. It naturally shows powder corrosion ahead of the forcing cone. The Colt address is clear and sharp. There is just slight holster wear on the muzzle. According to ‘Date of Shipment’ information on Coltforum, serial number 135,294 was issued to Co. F, 6th Michigan Cavalry in February 1865. Although issue wasn’t necessary chronological, it is feasible that my revolver (135,304) was also issued to that unit. Co. F. saw action and was present at Appomattox and after the war was sent west and participated in the Powder River Campaign. This is just enjoyable speculation and I have no documentation showing that. This is an excellent, attractive example of a Civil War Colt that clearly saw use. The appearance and matching numbers set it apart. As an antique, no FFL is required. $40.00 shipping in Lower US 48, and I will not ship to NYC, DC, Chicago, or NJ. Money order, bank check, or personal check.
