Offered here for sale is another newly acquired fine collectible from Hansen & Hansen. This is a very fine Colt Mk IV Series 70 .45 Colt auto pistol Government Model. The Colt Series 70 Government Model .45 Auto is a classic modernized version of the earlier Colt 1911 and is often regarded as one of the finest examples of American handgun craftsmanship. The Series 70 was introduced by Colt in 1970 as an improvement over the Series 60 and previous 1911 models. It is chambered in .45 ACP. 5-inch barrel, traditional Government Model frame, and a steel slide. The overall design stays true to the iconic 1911 style, with a full-sized frame, single-action trigger, and a grip safety. The pistol is constructed from high-quality steel and features a blued finish.
This specimen, serial number SM22426 was assigned to a specific batch of Colt pistols that were manufactured produced between 1971 and 1977. Serial numbers starting with "SM" are typically associated with the Colt Government Model Series 70 and can be considered highly collectible, as these were produced during a limited window and are increasingly sought after by collectors today. Because of the large number of collections acquired recently, many of these fine specimens were given a cursory inspection and given that they were in excellent condition we have posted them for sale even if there were some telltale dried oil showing in images as is the case with this one.
