1981 Colt 70 Series Government Model MkIV .45 ACP Pistol w/ Box, Etc.
** FLAT MINT!! **
SOLD
Description: We acquired this Colt directly from the gentleman who purchased it new in July of 1981 for $352.95 plus tax and put it in climate controlled storage until now. This gun is 100% original, unfired, and flat out mint! It comes with the original box and all of the paperwork, as well as an extra Colt factory spring kit he purchased at the same time. This Colt 70 Series Government Model MkIV is interesting in that it is one of the last 70 Series guns Colt put together, and was built on a left-over frame originally intended for Service Model Ace. This can be determined from the serial number which is SM37420 ("SM" being Service Model). In fact, if you go to Colt's and do a serial number search this serial number comes back as a 1981 Service Model Ace, which it obviously is not. In the late 1970's and early 1980's the Colt company was using up any and all parts it had to assemble pistols. This frame was likely in inventory as the demand for the Service Model guns was low, and so they decided to use it to build a Government Model MkIV which was a much better seller for the firm. This example was made in 1981 and is in perfect shape. The original factrory gloss blue finish rates 99%-plus with no wear, marring, or visible imperfections. The barrel is minty inside and out. The exterior of the barrel at the muzzle only has the faintest mark from the barrel bushing that makes contact with it. The bore is bright and clean, with sharp rifling and no imperfections whatsoever. The interior of the pistol is like-new, just like the exterior. The original factory checkered Walnut grips are pristine. They are free from any wear, cracks, repairs, soiling, or chips. The gold finished Rampant Colt medallions are perfect and tight to the wood. The factory original magazine is minty like the rest of the gun, and the follower shows no evidence of ever having been loaded. Everything on this gun works 100% like the day it left the factory, and after having examined this gun in great detail we can absolutely stand behind the original owner's claim that it was not fired after leaving the Colt factory. The original box is in great shape overall, and the original end-label is completely intact and factory serial numbered to this pistol. Inside the box is all of the inserts that the pistol shipped with including the Colt owner's manual, listing of Colt repair centers, The Colt Companion booklet, yellow warning hang tag, plastic bag, and even the silica packet. The original Styrofoam inserts are in excellent condition and clean. As a bonus, also included in the box is an extra factory spring kit that was mentioned previously. If you have been looking for the very best 70 Series Colt Government Model MkIV in existence this is surely it. This Colt would be an excellent addition to any collection and an excellent investment. It would certainly never need to be upgraded!
