COLT ~ RARE ~ 1911 U.S. NAVY ~ .45 AUTO
Description: This is a Colt Model 1911 that was made before WWI in 1912. Its serial number places the frame as being shipped to the United States Navy, and it has a Navy marked slide. This pistol retains its original blued finish. The left side of the slide is marked "PATENTED APR.20.1897. / SEPT.9,1902. DEC.19, 1905. FEB.14, 1911." and "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.", with a "encircled" Rampant Colt logo at the rear of the slide. The right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911. U. S. NAVY". The right side of the frame is marked "NO 13228". The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and behind the trigger with a circled "MWGP" (Major Walter G Penfield). The blued barrel is marked "H" on the top of the chamber, and "5" stamped in front of the barrel lug. The top rear face of the slide is marked "H" (inspection mark of Frank Hosmer). The flat on the top of the frame around the disconnector is marked "H" and "R".This Colt also has a smooth face trigger, checkered slide stop, checkered thick thumb safety, checkered wide spur hammer, flat mainspring housing with a lanyard loop.The grips are checkered walnut with smooth diamonds around the grip screws. The front sight is a thin short-rounded blade with a fine "U" notched rear sight dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is also rounded in profile. Comes with one unmarked magazine that has a two-tone finish with a flat base, and a lanyard loop on the underside. Overall it appears to about 70% of the original finish. There are quite a number of fine scratches, and some very light pits, indicative of carry at sea. The blue wear is primarily along the sharp edges and high points. Wood Condition: Excellent. The checkering lines are clean and crisp. Bore Condition: Very good. Barrels: 5 inches Triggers: Factory single action trigger. Butt Pad: """Double Diamond"" pattern checkered walnut. Weight: 38 Ounces Sights: Thin round blade and notch.
