COLT MODEL OF 1911 - US NAVY - FIRST YEAR with COLT HISTORIAN LETTER

Description:

Colt 1911 Navy first year, shipped October 5, 1912 with original finishes and Colt Historian Letter. Four digit serial number (72xx). Short spur hammer.  Correct hidden base, two tone "keyhole" magazine with lanyard loop.  Magazine catch lock with slotted screw.  Two line address on left side of frame marked United States Property. Slide marked Model of 1911 US Navy.  Rounded rear sight. Inspector marks "WGP".  Rampant Colt on the left side of the frame is crisp and well defined along with lettering on the slide and frame. The barrel on the gun is typically associated with a gun from serial number range of 25,000 to 120,000.  It was common practice for Military Armory Personnel to interchange barrels during the field stripping and cleaning process, which may explain why this gun has a second generation barrel. It is also possible, given that this gun was shipped in October 5, 1912 and the barrel production of the second generation barrels began in 1913, that it is indeed the original barrel. Regardless of the situation, the barrel is a correct and very desirable WWI time period Colt barrel.  We have included 4 pictures of the subject barrel. The markings on this barrel can be seen on the first barrel photo as “H” and “P”. The other 3 pictures show no markings.  This is an opportunity to own a rare high condition first year US Navy 1911.  Overnight shipping and insurance is $200.
