COLT 1902 HISTORIC EXTENSIVELY DOCUMENTED 38 COLT AUTO 6" BARREL
Description: COLT 1902 HISTORIC EXTENSIVELY DOCUMENTED 38 COLT AUTO 6" BARREL FACTORY INSCRIBED ORDERED BY ADMIRAL RICHMOND K TURNER FOR A GIFT TO REAR ADMIRAL MILO F DRAEMEL DURING THEIR TIME AT THE US NAVAL ACADEMY, INCLUDES FACTORY LETTER DOUCUMENTATION, HIS OFFICERS SWORD, HIS MEDALS, EPAULETS, HAT, BOOKS, AND ALL ACCESSORIES ARE INCLUDED. THE COLT 1902 PISTOL, A PERSONAL ARTIFACT OF ADMIRAL MILO F DRAEMEL, WAS MANUFACTURED IN 1906. IT INCLUDES THE FACTORY LETTER THAT CONFIRMS ALL SPECIFICATIONS RELATED TO THIS COLT 1902, INCLUDING THE INSCRIPTION DONE AT THE FACTORY. THE PISTOL WAS SHIPPED TO ADMIRAL TURNER ON FEBRUARY 6TH, 1906. THE GRIPS ARE CARVED WITH THE INITIALS "MD" ON THE LEFT SIDE AND A BILLIKEN ON THE RIGHT, WHICH WAS A POPULAR GOOD LUCK CHARM AROUND THE TIME OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE MFD INSCRIPTION REFERS TO MILO FREDERICK DRAEMEL, WHO WAS A MIDSHIPMAN AT THE US NAVAL ACADEMY IN 1906. DRAMEL WAS A COMPANY COMMANDER AND SECOND BATTALION STAFF AT THE ACADEMY AND WAS ALSO GIVEN THE RESPONSIBILITY OF A TEACHING POSITION INSTRUCTING YOUNGER MIDSHIPMEN AFTER THE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR AND THE US JOINING THE 2ND WORLD WAR, DRAEMEL WAS MADE THE CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE COMMAND THE PYE PACIFIC FLEET AS A STRATEGIST AND A PLANNER, ALSO SERVING AS VICE ADMIRAL UNDER WILLIAM HALSEYS DESTROYER COMMAND FLEET. IN 1942, HE WAS MADE COMMANDER OF THE AMPHIBIOUS FORCES IN THE PACIFIC FLEET, RECOMMENDING AGAINST THE INVASIONS OF THE NORTHERN MARIANAS, SAIPAN, TINIAN, THE MARSHALLS, AND THE CAROLINES. DREMEL WAS REPLACED AFTER THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY AND AMDE, THE COMMANDANT OF THE 4TH NAVAL DISTRICT IN PHILADELPHIA. IN 1946, HE WAS PLACED ON THE RETIRED LIST OF THE NAVAL RANKS AT REAR ADMIRAL. HE WAS AWARDED THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDAL AND THE LEGION OF MERIT MEDAL FOR HIS SERVICES DURING WORLD WAR II. ADMRIAL DRAMEL PASSED FEBRUARY 25TH, 1971. A PLETHORA OF ITEMS ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS HISTORIC COLT 1902 IN A SMALL DISPLAY CASE: TWO SETS OF SHOULDER BOARDS, ONE FOR HIS REAR ADMIRAL POSITION AND ONE FOR HIS ROLE AS MIDSHIPMAN 2ND CLASS IN THE NAVAL ACADEMY, A NAVY CROSS, 2 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE MEDALS, 2 LEGION OF MERIT MEDALS AND 2 SETS OF ADMIRAL STARS, A GREAT WHITE FLEET CHALLENGE COIN AN EMPTY BRASS CASE THAT WAS MOST LIKELY A CASE FOR A COMPASS AND A EMPTY POCKET WATCH CASE MARKED 'BUREAU OF SHIPS/US NAVY COMPARING WATCH' AND IS DATED 1942 ALSO INCLUDES HIS 1872 PATTERN US NAVAL OFFIVERS SWORD WITH DRAEMELS INITIALS INSCRIBED ON THE TOP OF THE POMMEL AND AS AN ORNATELY ENGRAVED BLADE. THE CASED EPAUETTE SET IS BEARING THE COMMANDER RANK, WITH BOCORNE HAT AND SWORD BELT. THE COLT 1902 ALSO INCLUDESA LARGE GROUPING OF BOOKS MANY OF WHICH ARE COPIES OF THE TITLE " LUCKY BAG" (NAVAL ACADEMY YEAR BOOK) FROM VARIOUS YEARS SOME BOOKS PERTAINING TO THE AMPHIBIOUS OPERATIONS IN THE PACIFIC THEATER A NAVAL AVAITATION BOOK IN A HARDWOOD DISPLAY CASEAND A FRAMED PRINT OF THE US NAVAL ACADEMY DATE 1908 BY RICHARD RUMMEL. ALONG WITH ALL OF THIS IS A SOUVENIR COPY OF "INSTUMENT OF SURRENDER" OF THE JAPANESE EMPERPOR AND GOVERNMENT AT TOKYO BAY WITH IS SIGNED BY ADMIRAL TURNER ALSO SERVERAL PICTURES INCLUDED FROM THE SURRENDER CERAMONY OF JAPAN.
