This is a 3rd Model Colt Derringer which is also known as the Thuer Model Derringer. Caliber is .41 Rimfire with 2.5" round barrel.
The frame is nickel plated, and there are still some strong traces of the original nickel finish on the bronze frame. Barrel was originally blued and has turned to a dark gray patina with "COLT" in script stamped on the top of the barrel, there is heavy pitting and wear.
Screws have excellent slots. The wooden grips show a fair bit of use but remain solid. They appear to be made of walnut. Hammer pulls back and functions, barrel still latches quite tightly to the frame, the bore is poor, with worn rifling and some scattered pits.
This is a collector piece on which we would reccomend restoration if it were to be fired. This little pistol has been around for 150+ years and surely has seen plenty of history in its years.
A nice example of an early Colt Single Shot Derringer with nice contrast between the nickel plated/patina finish on the frame, walnut grips, and traces of blue on the balance of the gun.
The letters "B.S." are scratched into the right side of the frame, and some markings on the butt of the frame as well as what appears to be the letter "D" on the left side wooden grips,
