Commercial / Military Colt Model 1911A1 .45 ACP WW2 WWII Production 1943
Description: This a rare Colt M1911A1 variation from WW2. Beginning in late 1942, approximately 6,575 commercial government model M1911A1's were converted to military production. Colt ceased commercial production in 1942 and these pistols were removed from Colt's unsold commercial stock on hand. This transaction resulted in a small lot of extremely rare models that appear to be mismatched or of shooter value. Features that would denote such a pistol include a peened over "GOVERNMENT MODEL" and C prefix serials. This also includes the slide serial numbers under the firing pin stop. That is the case in both locations for this pistol, and the serials do not match but that is not out of the ordinary. The "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" and "M1911A1 U.S. ARMY" proofs, plus military serial numbers, were later added to the frame and slide. The internal slide and frame are marked 'S' to denote commercial sales, rather than the normal 'G' you would see to indicate the government contract. The barrel is 'G' proofed, however, which is appropriate for the pistol. The finish rates at about 95%, with most of the finish thinning found on the front strap and top of the slide. The slide and frame both have 'P' proofs, and they are the same size and style, which they should be given they were stamped after finishing. Despite the mismtach, the serial number on both the slide and the frame are in the correct serial range for a commerical military M1911A1. Excellent bore.
