1984 Vintage Colt Mk.IV Series 80 Government Model .380 Auto in 2-Tone Coltguard Finish
** Clean All-Original Example **
Description: This is a very clean and lightly-used Colt Mk.IV Series 80 Government Model .380 ACP pistol in the factory 2-tone "Coltguard" finish. This .380 Government Model was manufactured in 1984 and has been in long-term storage for the last 30 plus years. The Colt Mk.IV Series 80 Government Model .380 pocket pistol was first introduced in 1983 and remained in production until 1997 as one of Colt's 1911-style concealed carry/self-defense pistols. This particular Coltguard finish was offered for only four years between 1986 and 1989 and was essentially a satin electroless nickel with matte blued small parts. The SA-only semi-auto Mk.IV Series 80 Government Model .380 featured all steel construction, a 3.25" inch barrel, fixed iron sights, a 7-shot single-stack magazine, and checkered composition grips. This diminutive 1911-style pocket pistol weighed in at 21.75 ounces with an overall length of 6.25" inches, a width of 1" inch, and a height of just over 4.25" inches. The .380 Government Model proved to be a very good little pistol that was reliable, accurate, and easy to operate, particularly for anyone already familiar with 1911 model pistols. This particular example is in excellent condition overall with perfect mechanics and only some very minor cosmetic handling/storage marks. As mentioned earlier, it has been in long-term storage for several decades and appears to have been fired only a few times at the very most. The Coltguard finish on this Government Model rates 96 to 97%, with the only deductions coming from some tiny little spots of staining in the satin finish. As was common in Colt's from this period in the early 1980's, the satin e-nickel finish was not perfect from the factory and has a few areas of varying thickness and minor cosmetic flaws in it. The most visible of these can be seen in picture 13 at the front of the underside of the slide, where there is a line/seam in e-nickle finish. This is strictly aesthetic in the finish coating and not in the metal itself. The factory matte blue finish on the small parts of this Colt is in very good condition and very handsome with the contrast to the Coltguard finish. The factory blued parts show just a touch of wear on some of the high-edges and the barrel where it makes contact with the barrel bushing. The bore in this Colt is mirror-bright and perfect, with no visible imperfections or wear. The rifling is sharp and strong throughout the barrel, and the polished bright chamber area visible in the slide is still bright and shiny with no staining or visible wear marks. The factory grips on this pistol are in like-new condition, free from any cracks, chips, visible wear, or repairs. Both grip panels have sharp checkering and bright and clean Rampant Colt medallions, and both grips are tight to the gun with no wiggle. The 4 original grip screws are all in good condition as well with clean slots. The action on this 80 Series Government Model .380 is slick and smooth, and the barrel lock-up with the slide is excellent. All of the controls on this Colt are in 100% perfect working order and the slide-to-frame fitment is excellent. We have no doubt that this Colt will function just as well today as the day it left the factory over 37 years ago. This pistol has not even begun to be broken-in yet and still has 99% of it's service life remaining. If you have been looking for a high-condition example with perfect mechanics, this 1984-production Colt .380 would be an excellent choice.
