Historical Colt 1911 Grouping of Col. Harry S. Berry
Description: Here we present a very rare grouping of historical significance. The obvious center piece is the WWI 1911 Colt 45 which has been preserved in outstanding condition. The serial number dates the piece to 1914 production, and our official Colt Letter indicates it was shipped to United States Government Ordnance Officer Fort Slocum New Rochelle New York October 5th, 1914. It was one in a shipment of 750 units. The acquisition of everything you see in these photographs came from the family of Col Harry S. Berry and includes hisbelt, dual ammo pouch for 45 ACP mags dated Aug 1818, utility pouch marked LCC & Co 1918, the canteen canvas cover is marked U.S. 1918 B.A.CO. and has been personalized by Col Berry (see photos), the canteen cup is marked U.S. 1918 B.A.CO. The canteen is in a leather harness and retains the original leg strapping. The service belt also has his lanyard loop intact. The leather holster is the standard officers swivel holster with leg strapping leather intact and is embossed with the US emblem. Numerous photocopies accompany this grouping. He was a West Point cadet 1900-04 and graduated. He served as 2nd Lt in the 13th Cav from 1904-1909. He served in the Philippines in the latter part of 1909. He became a captain in the 1st TN infantry 1909-10, then a QM in 1915. He was a Major in the 1st TN infantry 2nd Brigade 1915-16 at which time he was promoted to Colonel in 1916. Harry S Berry served in a field artillery unit during WWI in France. Harry went on to accompany General John J Pershing on the Poncho Villa Expedition to bring Poncho Villa to justice. The field gear with this grouping is from that expedition. Col. Harry S. Berry became the state administrator for the Works Progress Administration (WPA), which built the Nashville Airport in cooperation with the City of Nashville. On June 12, 1937, Berry Field opened in Nashville TN, inaugurating a new era of air travel for the city. Berry Field today is known as Nashville International Airport, or BNA. The three-letter airport code, BNA means Berry Nashville Airport, honoring his legacy to this day. This is a “investment quality” grouping that is sure to escalate in value over the years. For payment we will accept personal checks, money orders, certified check or cashiers’ check, all major credit cards. Credit cards are acceptable with a 4% up-charge for processing.
