COLT 1911 MILITARY MATCH PISTOL AIR FORCE MODEL?
Description: Serial #1956XXX, .45 ACP, 5" NM stamped and numbered barrel and bushing...with a like new bore... Bo-Mar adjustable rear sight with special match front sight...The grip frame and safety have been strippled...This tight, Military National Match spec Colt 1911 pistol was assembled post WW2, using a U.S. Property stamped 1944 vintage frame made by Remington Rand and a Colt Commercial slide...It is in fine overall condition with a 90% uniform matt grey finish. The double diamond Commercial checkered factory grips, with gold Colt inserts, are in excellent condition...Research reveals that early post war military match pistols were made up by government armorers, located at the Springfield Armory and elsewhere...WW2 era 1911A1 frames were picked at random, to which specially made national match parts were fitted. A hardened slide manufactured by either Drake Industries or Colt was mated to the receiver. A match grade barrel was installed, along with a hand fitted barrel bushing. Match rules were modified to allow for adjustable sights. Other upgrades included front strap checkering and depending on the year, internal upgrades as well...Further research reveals that famed Air Force General Curtis LeMay was disappointed with the performance of the Air Force Pistol Team...So, he ordered that improvements be made to the Air Force Match Pistols, in order to improve their performance...One of those improvements was the installation of an adjustable aluminum trigger...This particular pistol features an adjustable aluminum trigger...
