VAN WART & SON ENGLISH PERCUSSION POCKET PISTOL 1850-1860 MARKED LONDON
Description: An antique Van Wart, Son & Company pocket pistol, made in London circa 1850-60. Van Wart was primarily a dealer who purchased arms in England and exported them to the American market, mostly for sale in the southern states. The top of the 6” long barrel is marked “LONDON”. The lock is marked “VAN WART, SON & CO”. The overall condition is good to fair with finish remaining on the lock. The metal surfaces are dark with age, worn engraving in areas, and with a fine patina. The markings are all legible. The stock is in overall good shape with old, worn chips in the forestock. The walnut stock has been expertly restored. Smooth bore is about .45 caliber and dark, with some inactive corrosion. The lock functions. Hammer screw is loose. Brass cap box in the butt.
