H. Bales Muff Pistol of Ipswich England, .45 Percussion PRICE: $725

Description:
Henry Bales Muff Pistol fitted with an engraved 1 5/8 inch twist on smooth bore barrel (which allows for the loading of the pistol), fine checkered walnut grips, and a engraved frame, hammer, sliding safety lever, and initial plaque, which is inlet into the back of the grip.  It is fitted with a folding trigger and a sliding safety lever which when pushed forward locks the hammer in the fully cocked position.   Condition:  It retains 60% of its original blue finish (looks fire blued?), with most loss on the left side of the frame.  The action functions very well, except the trigger does not lock up into the up position, is loose.   The wood has some repair work evident but retains much of its original finish.  This is a nice example of a English made Muff pistol, made sometime between 1820 to 1845.
