Description: SHARPE of LONDON Brass Barrel ENGRAVED Flintlock BELT Self Defense Pistol English Maker Known for his “FUR TRADE” Pistols Here we present an antique Engraved Sharpe of London Brass Barrel Flintlock Holster/Coat Pocket Pistol, made circa the 1820s with post-1813 proofs in Birmingham, England. This pistol features a large .60 caliber “Manstopping” bore that would have been quite the deterrent against ne’er do wells and ruffians roaming the city streets in tumultuous Europe in the early to mid-1800s. This London Gun maker "SHARPE" was in business from 1800 until 1840. Initially he contracted with the Hudson Bay Company to supply good quality Flintlock pistols that were traded to the Indigenous Red Indians in exchange for fur pelts that were eagerly desired in the European Fashion Trade. Men would carry this style of pistol concealed in a waistcoat pocket or tucked securely into his belt. It is nicely engraved on the side of the frame and hammer. The overall condition is good.
