SCARCE CIRCA 1764 SCOTTISH FLINTLOCK BELT PISTOL
Description: Scarce early circa 1764 fine quality Revolutionary War ram's-horn butt Highlander's Scottish flintlock belt pistol. Finely contoured all steel construction with traditional ram's-horn butt, 10.5" overall length. Original screw-type vent pick with ball finial present in butt. In very fine+ condition overall. 6.5" ribbed to round to octagon barrel, lightly engraved. .55 caliber smoothbore. All original flintlock mechanism with early gooseneck hammer. Lockplate is stamped "R C" (Robert Caddell of Edinburgh, Scotland 1764 (see "British Pistols And Guns 1640 - 1840" by Ian Glendenning). Complete with its original sculpted and chiseled belt-hook on the left side. Original finely turned ramrod is present. .100% original and correct, the metal surface overall is smooth and untouched. The metal has area's of light engraving overall. The mechanics work perfectly. Traditional ball-type trigger. This is a scarce early classic firearm in the area of gun collecting.
