Robert Wogdon Flintlock Pistol
Description: Robert Wogdon Flintlock Pistol Robert Wogdon of London was born in 1737 and was an active gunsmith from 1760 until after the American Revolutionary War. He moved to London in 1764. He is best known as a maker of dueling pistols and was the gunsmith who crafted the pistols used in the most famous duel in American history: the Burr-Hamilton duel that ended with Alexander Hamilton mortally wounded and ultimately destroyed Aaron Burr's political career. The lock plate and barrel are brass with an engraved sterling silver trigger guard with acorn finial. It has a panoply of arms sideplate made of sterling silver and sterling silver ramrod pipes. The original brass lock plate is signed “Wogdon” in beautiful script. The barrel has “London" engraved on top with floral engraving and London proof marks. The barrel is octagon to round. The pistol is in excellent condition. The pistol with a combination of brass lock and barrel with sterling silver furniture presents itself as a stunning flintlock. The patina is even and the pistol has handsome appeal. The lock and trigger function excellently. The flintlock pistol is well portioned with a 7 ½” barrel and is 12 ½” overall. This is a very attractive pistol manufactured by an important dueling pistol maker. Call Gordon 540-448-0344 SOLD Antique: Yes |
