Model of 1807/1808 - Simeon North - Pirate / Privateer Flintlock Pistol - .64.cal
Description: An interesting early North pistol.. Alot of the characteristics point to an early example of the first contract Style North model 1807/1808 Flintlock pistol.. Following the other styles of the 1797 era pistols, North was supplied patterns of the current style currently on hand in the Armories of the US. According to the American Society of Arms Collectors Bulletin #109 , in the early years North experimented with improvements and recommendations ... ie.. addition of an Iron Backstrap for additional support and a Brass flashpan among others that are now undocumentated.. It also mentions similar Bag Grip examples of the T,French model of 1797 pistol.. also the removal of the secondary ram-rod pipe as usually seen in early 1797 models as a possible cost cutting measure...and possibly the fact that Simeon North sold "out the back Door " to the Pirate/Privateer market Guns that were not up to the US Contract standards. and in order to keep the cash-flow moving.. This examplle has a standard 10 inch barrel of 64 caliber with the S.North marked lock beveled in the first contract style. No proofs on the barrel as was the 1808 era..A couple small slivers of wood replaced around the lock and a OLD heavy re-varnish as it were... a small "dot" pattern around the muzzel of the Barrel.. Bore is dark as most of this period are... mechanically excellent and functional... Has a good solid feel to it.. shipping in USA included...
