Description: Classic Scarce English Flintlock Pistol by Tathan & Egg C. 1810 Offered here for sale and just acquired is this very DESIRABLE early 19th century English flintlock pistol which is a product of the famed Egg family of London. This specimen. A desired “saw handled” specimen seldom seen on the market. 15 7/8” overall, 9 ¾” (approx.24 bore octagonal Damascus barrel with blade fore sight signed in a gold tablet ‘Tatham & Egg’, gold line at breech, rear sight on engraved tang. Platinum touch hole, barrel numbered 907 on underside, no proofs. Case hardened wheat ear border engraved flat detented locks signed ‘Tatham & Egg’, flat French cock, narrow pan, roller on frizzen safety catch. Highly figured full stock with horn fore end cap and chequered butt with flat bottom and a silver Greek key engraved band and oval steel plate engraved ‘Tatham & Eggs Improvement No. 907’. Steel spurred D-shaped trigger guard decorated with scrolling trophies of the arts on the border engraved bow, silver barrel bolt escutcheons, original horn tipped ramrod . Circa 1810. The barrel retains much of Damascus finish. Has some spotty patina. Bore is excellent. However long ago the pistol was apparently dropped with the butt striking a surface hard enough to crack either side of the grip. Barely noticeable unless the backstrap was examined where there appears an inlay in the back of the grip. It appears that the inlay may have covered an opening which intended for a detachable stock to be placed which is no longer with the pistol.
