BARNETT British Antique LIGHT DRAGOON Pattern .65 Flintlock CAVALRY Pistol
WAR OF 1812 Era British Military Flintlock
Description: BARNETT British Antique LIGHT DRAGOON Pattern .65 Flintlock CAVALRY Pistol WAR OF 1812 Era British Military Flintlock Here we present an antique British Barnett Light Dragoon Flintlock Pattern Pistol, made circa the early 18th Century in London, England. The Barnett name is often remembered for the large number of "Northwest" trade guns and "Chief Grade" firearms given to Native American leaders during the colonial era that often bear the name, but a number of arms for military service and some of higher quality for sale to European and Euro-American gentlemen including fowling pieces and pistols have also been seen. This pistol would have been carried by a member of the British Light Dragoons. Light Cavalry in the British Army began to be more highly developed and organized during this very period of the middle 1700s. By the 18th century, cavalry represented one of the three basic troop types of any European army, along with the infantry and artillery. Mounted troops came in a variety of different types, depending on the role that they played on the battlefield. Light cavalry rode small quick horses and carried light weapons ideal for scouting and skirmishing. Heavy cavalry, including cuirassiers and lancers, on the other hand, were often armored and were mounted on strong powerful horses which they used to smash and break enemy formations in close combat. Potential conflicts this pistol may have seen include the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) and the War of 1812 (1812-1814). The overall condition is good. Original flintlock. The hammer only holds in the full cock position. The bore is in good shape for its age. Solid stock overall, containing an average amount of handling wear, dents and dings. Markings are legible.
