18th Century Italian Flintlock Pistol by Lazaro Lazarino
Description: NSN, .62 caliber, 12 1/2" part round/part octagon barrel with a fair-good, darkly pitted bore. This is a handsome pistol that that has an overall mottled, plum-brown patina along the barrel, with more dark pewter gray on the frizzen, lockplate, and swan-necked cock. Lovely period geometric scroll engraving is present on the lock with a clear and legible maker's name along the top flat of the breech of the barrel: “LAZARO LAZARINO". The ramrod pipes, trigger guard, sideplate, and buttcap, are brass and deeply engraved with floral and geometric designs. The brass fixtures were cleaned in the past, leaving an attractive, fairly bright yellow patina. The walnut stock has minimal, but nicely executed, relief carved embellishments and has only light handling marks and minor bruises in the nice old, oil finish. The mechanism is firm and fully functional, while the original, brass-tipped ramrod is in excellent shape. Lazario Lazarino operated in Brescia from 1783 to around 1800, when his sone took over the business. This is a fabulous looking mid-late 18th century Italian-made pistol, and would make a nice addition to any collection.
