Moore's Patent Firearms Company Front-Loading Revolver in .32 Caliber Teat-fire
** 100% Original & Matching w/ Original Cartridge **
Description: This is a beautiful all-original and matching example of the Moore's Patent Firearms Company's Front-Loading Revolver model in the special .32 Caliber Teat-Fire cartridge developed by Daniel Moore and David Williamson. The Moore's Patent Firearms Company made this model from 1864 to 1870 (becoming National Arms Company in 1870) in Brooklyn New York, with a total quantity produced of around 30,000 revolvers. During the production run there were 6 distinct variations produced. This revolver was designed to circumvent the Rollin-White patent on bored-thru cylinders that Smith & Wesson had exclusive use of, which allowed S&W to have the monopoly on building rear-loading revolvers. The Front-Loading Revolver model ended up being a big success for the Moore's firm, with this revolver model becoming one of Smith & Wesson's most serious competitors. The strong sales of this model likely led to Colt puchasing the National Arms Company in 1870, which was Moore's successor. This particular example is one of the first type without any integral extractor. It features a brass frame with a silver plated finish, a blued barrel and cylinder, a case-colored hammer, loading gate, and barrel wedge, a 6-shot front-loading cylinder, a 3.25" inch barrel, and a bird's head grip with factory varnished Walnut grips. The gun is stamped on the top of the barrel with "MOORE'S PAT FIRE ARMS CO. BROOKLYN NY", with the serial number "8110" stamped on the underside of the barrel. The rear outside edge of the cylinder is stamped with "D. WILLIAMSON'S PATENT / JAN.5,1864". While the underside of the barrel carries the only serial number, all of the other parts are stamped with an assembly number of "CA 10", including both of the grips, the barrel assembly, the cylinder, the cylinder pin, the frame, and even the tiny barrel wedge. As you can see from the pictures, this Moore's Patent revolver is very attractive and it retains a great deal of the original silver plating, showing only light wear and tarnish that is consistent throughout the frame. The original blue finish on the cylinder and barrel has turned to a brown-gray due to poor storage, as there appears to be little to no evidence of mechanical wear. All of the stampings, decorative engraving, and edges on this revolver are crisp and sharp. The case colors on the loading gate and barrel wedge are beautiful, with both parts still showing nice bright color. The bore in this Front-Loading Revolver is very good to excellent, with only one little spot of light pitting in the entire bore. The rest of the bore is mirror-bright and pristine with the rifling still showing sharp lands and grooves throughout the barrel. The 6 front-loading chambers of the cylinder are also in excellent condition, with all six chambers clean and free from damage. The original varnished Walnut grips on this Moore's Patent revolver are in excellent condition overall. Both sides show more than 85% of the original varnish still intact and only some small handling/storage marks in the wood. Both grip panels are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage, and both grips have a crisp original assembly number of "CA 10" stamped into the backside. The grip screw and hardware is in excellent condition and both grips are tight to the gun with no wiggle. The action on this antique revolver is in perfect working order, and it is in perfect time. The hammer still has both the half-cock and full-cock notches intact, and the spur trigger works perfectly. All of the functions of this little revolver work 100% like the day it left the factory more than 155 years ago. It is very obvious that this revolver must have spent the vast majority of it's life in a bedside table or sock drawer rather than actually carried or fired. We would be surprised if it has been fired more than a handful of times at the very most since it was new. This Moore's Patent Firearms Company Front-Loading Revolver comes with one unfired and original antique .32 Caliber Teat-Fire Cartridge for display. While the cartridge is still loaded, it is highly doubtful that it will fire. If you have been looking for a really cool antique American revolver for your collection this unique front-loading revolver would be an excellent choice. These guns seem to be few and far between, and it is very rare to find an all-matching and 100% original example in such attractive shape. As an antique weapon, this revolver can be shipped directly to your home, no FFL is needed.
