BRASS BARREL KETLAND-ALLPORT .52 FLINTLOCK Pistol BIRMINGHAM TRADE
Antique
Description: BRASS BARREL KETLAND-ALLPORT .52 FLINTLOCK Pistol BIRMINGHAM TRADE Antique c1816 North American Colonial Trade Piece w Mask Pommel! Here we present an antique Allport Late with Ketland & Co. Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1816 to 1823 in London, England. William Allport was a lock maker between the years of 1807 and 1823. Allport-marked Ketland locks are found during the years of 1816 and 1823 as the Allport family had a partnership with the Ketland family but with the last Ketland partner having died, Allport continued to use the strong Ketland name alongside his own. Ketland & Co. was a firearms manufacturer founded in Birmingham, England somewhere around 1760. Thomas Ketland Sr. was a highly successful Birmingham gunmaker. He started his business around 1760 and expanded into the export market around 1790. He died in 1816. The business carried on until bankruptcy in 1821. The company manufactured flintlock pistols, becoming quite successful in its field. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. This pistol also bears the tombstone Birmingham trade marking with the number 5 and a bird within. The barrel is round with a beautiful full-length walnut stock, and the engravings on the brass are reserved yet handsome. This one has a masked pommel. It would have been made for export to North American markets where Americans and Canadians would have used them themselves or used them as trade items for furs and the like with the natives. If only this gun could tell us some stories! The overall condition is good. Nice color on the brass. Clear markings. The action has good spring tension and the cock will hold half- and full-cock but can be pushed out of cock and will only drop to half-cock. The stock is solid. The bore is smooth and patinated. A great piece of history for display! Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 6 inches. Caliber: .52 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1800 #230709 SOLD Antique: Yes |
