Antique QUEEN ANNE Flintlock Pistol GROTESQUE Mask SILVER MOUNTED & Inlaid .56 Caliber Long Barrel 8 3/4”
Description: Antique QUEEN ANNE Flintlock Pistol GROTESQUE Mask SILVER MOUNTED & Inlaid .56 Caliber Long Barrel 8 ¾” Here we present an antique British Queen Anne Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late 1700s to the early 1800s. It features a single .56 caliber rifled bore. Queen Anne pistols are a type of breech-loading flintlock pistol known as a turn-off pistol, in which the chamber is filled from the front and accessed by unscrewing the barrel. Another distinguishing feature of the design is that the lock-plate and the breech section of the firearm are forged as a single piece. Possibly first made in England, they came in fashion in England during the reign of Queen Anne, who reigned between 1702–1714, and are consequently so named. This type of pistol is noted primarily for being made small, so that it could be easily carried and concealed. This flintlock pistol would have been used primarily as a self-defense weapon. Their effective range was short, and they were frequently used as an adjunct to a sword. Pistols in this era were usually smoothbore, whereas the “Queen Anne” style pistols normally have a rifled barrel, as is this example. They came in a variety of sizes with the smallest being less than 6 inches and the largest ranging to over 20 inches. The smallest would fit into a typical pocket or a hand warming muff and could easily be carried by women. These type of self defense pistols were commonly carried in the busy streets of London during this very tumultuous time. This pistol is quite beautiful with its silver inlays. The barrel and frame are both forged in one piece and the barrel does unthread for loading. Loading the breech directly, as opposed to loading via the muzzle, allows the shooter to use a larger ball for better gas seal and is therefore more efficient. This is an original surviving flintlock and not converted as many were when the percussion firing system became available. The overall condition is good. Gray patina throughout. The action is strong. The bore is well-rifled and patinated. The grip shows use and remains solid. London proofs. The barrel does not presently turn off. This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8-3/4 inches. Caliber: .56 Flintlock Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
