W. Ketland & Company, converted flintlock single shot pistol, ANTIQUE, produced in Birmingham, England, by William Ketland, either the Grandson or nephew of William Ketland, Sr. whose company was in business from 1760-1831, (began exporting to US in 1790), my best guess is that this pistol was produced in late 1700's to early 1800's, (literature on Ketlands, one of the largest British gun companys of their time, is scant and confusing), very nice 9 3/4" Brass barrel, (Brass barrels are rarer and more desirable than the iron barrels) barrel may be Belgium and British proofed (Ketland used many Belgium barrels over their years in production), "London" engraved on top of barrel indicating most likely where gun was retailed... Has brass trigger guard and ferrules for rammer, bore. Wood retains much of original finish, small nicely repaired crack on other side of lock-plate, at back end of barrel, strong cocking spring, This piece came out of a collection in NY, and was probably converted to percussion in America. This conversion is quite unique and standard for its time. Small crack on underside with small nail reinforcements, also standard for this type of pistol, often used by gentleman farmers and kept in their belt for quick access.
