VERY FINE 1873 mfr. British P1858 Pistol for the EIG Military EIC India .66 Late Percussion Gun for the Indian Army
Description: VERY FINE 1873 mfr. British P1858 Pistol for the EIG Military EIC India .66 Late Percussion Gun for the Indian Army Here we present an antique British Pattern 1858 Percussion Pistol, made circa 1873 in Birmingham, England. This large bore percussion pistol was made the same year that the East India Stock Dividend Redemption Act 1873 was passed by Parliament. The assets of the East India Company came under the direct control of the Crown, including the large “private” Indian Army that has been estimated at nearly a quarter million at the time. This was how the British armed their indigenous troops. It has much to laud as a percussion pistol and is of excellent workmanship, featuring a captive ramrod, front and rear sight (not a given with such pistols), a lanyard ring, and sturdy construction. It also has a .66 caliber smooth bore, effective against man or beast. However, the percussion firing mechanism was well on its way out and breechloading metallic cartridge firearms were already in European hands, such as the Snider and the Martini-Henry. This was the British way to arm their foreign army while still maintaining an upper hand in technology. The lock is marked “Crown/Broad Arrow/EIG” and “BIRMINGHAM/1873”. The stock is dated “1885”. Birmingham proofed. The overall condition is very fine. Original blue finish and case colors. It is clear that this piece did not see much use. The action is excellent. The bore is smooth and bright. The stock shows some handling marks and remains in great shape. This is a fantastic piece still ready to do what it was intended to do. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 8 inches. Caliber: .66 Percussion Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $1700 #228560 SOLD Antique: Yes |
