Rare matching date of 1855 on both lock and barrel. Crisp "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" marked lock, with beautiful, stunning, crisp Eagle on tape primer cover. Breech of barrel marked with "V" & "P" proofs over eaglehead motif. Top of barrel additionally stamped at breech "P. H. D."? Leaf-type rear sight. .58 caliber bore exhibits visible rifling. Mechanically strong, with original functioning priming device, Expected signs of use and wear, but certainly not abused. Walnut stock with untouched original finish, age handling dings, cartouche visible on left side. “17” stamped on the heel of the butt-cap. Original ramrod and swivels. Complete with its original U.S. model 1855, carbine detachable Shoulder-Stock. “US” marked buttplate, with untouched brass. Stock is stamped "1" and on left side of yoke "W.C."?
